Los Cabos is a place well known for its beautiful beaches, breath taking sunsets, wild nightlife, upscale hotels and resorts and fine restaurants. There is a big chance that you don’t miss in most of the places you may choose to have lunch or dinner, it might only depend on the amount of money you are whiling to spend on a meal.

But if you are staying at San Jose del Cabo, one you can’t miss is “Local Eight”, a fine restaurant that has set a new standard of dining in Baja California, due to the innovative menu that is served by chef EricK Lazo Sepulveda.

The experience our palates had at Local Eight was unique. The combination of the well presented dishes, the warm ambient and the beauty of the decoration made this a must-come-back the next time we land on Baja. Just a few examples will make a picture of what you can taste at Local Eight:

We started with a “Honey Dew Melon Cold Soup”, to refresh our mouths and get ready for what was coming: the “Sea of Cortes Cakes”, Crab, scallops & shrimp cakes over bean puree and roasted corn kernels (the bean puree, with a bit of pineapple is delicious). Chef also sent us the “Eggplant Tojo”, layer eggplant with caramelized onions, sweet miso, shrimp and scallops.

I strongly recommend that you do the same and take a sample of all the appetizers offered in the menu, because the “Calamari and Caribbean”, pepper stuffed with smoked marlin over grill cactus with tequila pickled onions and Asian vinagrette sauce, as well as the “Shrimp Shu Mai”, served with mango ginger sauce are fantastic.

I can’t tell you much about the salads and the pasta because I didn’t try them, but I can tell you about the Black Pepper Crusted Fillet, served with smoked thyme demi glace sauce, and mashed potatoes, which I did try. But the variety of entrée fits all tastes, from a fresh fish of the day prepared with Extra virgin olive oil and lemon, to the pork tenderloin, sea bass, chicken or the exotic “Arabian Snapper”, presented with baba Ganoush sauce, paprika ginger and mint served with rice and grill vegetables.

One thing is for sure: whatever your choose is, prepare for a flavor party on your mouth. And, to help it go right to your stomach, you can try a bottle of their well balanced wine selection, from over thirty appellations in over a dozen countries.

So, now you know, whenever you are in San Jose del Cabo, make a reservation to dinner at Local Eight with 24 hours in advance calling: 624-142-6655. The place is located at Blvd. Mijares, Plaza Mision, local 8 and serves from 6 to 10:30 pm (lunch opening soon). Try http://www.localeight.com to get more info.
